Our Story
Logan was diagnosed with a very rare sarcoma at the age of 9. After enjoying an entire Summer of swimming, playing and just having fun, we never noticed anything odd. Even after countless days of swimming without a shirt. I always say it was by a stroke of luck that we found the lump on his chest. The right shirt, the right lighting, the right angle allowed me to see something protruding from right under his breast bone. I immediately scheduled an appointment with our doctor and within 3 weeks, we had gotten x-rays, CT Scans, biopsy and a PET scan. The news was devastating as we originally thought that the worst news was going to be that he had a rib deformity. Little did we know that we would be told it was cancer.
We immediately started treatment for Ewings Sarcoma. While he does not have the Ewings fusion, he is categorized under the Ewings Sarcoma umbrella. We discovered early on that his cancer is extremely rare as no specialists have seen his type before. That meant that any treatment was like taking a “shot in the dark” as one of our second opinions stated.
